Sydney's most underrated dog beaches

Sydney’s summer can be hot, making cooling down at the beach an absolute must. If you’re anything like us, you’re probably looking to go to a beach where your dog can join in. They need to cool down with all that fur after all!

We’ve curated our top picks of the most underrated beaches in Sydney: beaches you might not have been to, but you definitely should visit (we’ll tell you why). Remember to slip, slop, slap, and provide your dog (and yourself) with plenty of water! Enjoy the weather pawrents.

Sirius Cove, Mosman

Dog off-leash hours: All day Monday- Friday. Before 9am and after 4pm Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays

Why it’s underrated? The picnic-friendly park behind the beach.

Sirius Cove is a stunner, for both pups and humans alike. It’s the perfect location for a family day out with the gorgeous green park, complete with picnic benches and shady trees. The best part is dogs are allowed off-leash in both the beach and the park, during the designated hours. There’s also a foreshore track that leads you through lush forest to some hidden coves.

Rose Bay Foreshore, Rose Bay

Dog off-leash hours: Before 8.30am and after 4.30pm

Why it’s underrated? The sheer length of beach and gradual water depth

null

The Rose Bay foreshore, also called Dumaresq Reserve, is a hidden gem tucked away in the Eastern Suburbs. During low tide, a huge sandbank forms which gives you and your dog a tonne of walking and playing space. The water deepens very gradually, making it the perfect spot for dogs who aren’t confident swimmers or simply still getting used to the water.

Bicentennial Park, Glebe

Dog off-leash hours: All times

Why it’s underrated? The gorgeous harbour views

null

Okay so technically this isn’t a beach, but Bicentennial Park sits right up against the water, giving your dog direct water access. Just be sure to keep them west of the canal. The view is striking, and there is plenty of grassy space to sit down and soak it all it. If you’re looking to combine your beach trip with a walk, this is an ideal starting point for the Glebe Foreshore loop walk.
